staying busy to keep the winter blues at bay- January 2016

For show and tell day, Abigail chose to bring our bearded dragon.  I didn't think it through very well...  I realized only after the kids had left for school and Ben for work, that I was going to have to be the one to pick Freddie up out of his cage and transport him to school.  I was brave, I took a few deep breaths and I touched the lizard for the first time.  Since then I have touched him multiple times without cringing.  Progress... I am making progress.  The kids think this means we'll get a dog someday.

Hailey loves the time after she gets home from school.  Ike goes down for his nap and the big kids are still in school.  We have a couple of hours for just us.  Sometimes we color with special name places... and sometimes she watches t.v. while I clean.
Abigail is not always happy when I ask her to read for her 20 minutes... but if she can read to Isaac or Hailey, she'll do it more cheerfully.

Carly is my little organizer.  She asked me to come in the girls room for a big surprise.  She had organized their bulletin board and was just so proud.  She knew I would appreciate the job well done.

I took Ike and Hailey to the treehouse  while the big kids were at school.  Ike carried around these foam noodles and ball, and tried his best to play baseball.

 He loved the firetruck

As soon as the kids walked in the door from school, she blurted out that we went to the tree house without them.  Then I had to hear the older kids talk about how the work so hard at school while we just have fun all day long!  So funny.
 My matching girls

Abigail is always a fun shopping partner, and likes to take pictures.

Hailey had a field trip to the treehouse and got to play Snow White in the play.  She was beaming.

 Afterwards, we made wands.

Luke has loved Webelos more than any other den.  He was sad to move on, because he loved his leaders so much.
 His self portraits

Abi had her 3rd grade talent show, and she chose to do tricks with Lola.  Lola is Grandma Sharla and Grandpa Larry's dog.  They performed so well, and looked so cute together.  It almost makes me wish I liked dogs well enough to get her one.
We went to IHOP...  It's a family favorite.

We always have a Holiday party in January with my Dad's side of the family. We ate soup and played some fun games.

Luke and Abi played a game where they had to find the gummi worms in the whipped cream.  After Abi was done, she told me that she couldn't breathe and was scared because there was so much whip cream up her nose.

My girls all wanted curlies (that's what they call them) by their ears for church... then they wanted a picture together with their curlies.

Ike was napping one day and I heard him wake up and say, " mommy mom, mommy mom where are you??" over and over.  I went in his room to get him and he was so happy, he said, "I found you mommy!"

Ben turns 34! January 20, 2016

Happy Birthday to Ben!
I can't believe he's already made it to 34... seems like just yesterday we were young kids in our 20's.
Man... we love this guy!

The kids were so excited for Ben's birthday.  They prepped all day for it, waiting for him to get home from work was pure agony for the kids.  The girls made decorations and hid hearts with messages around the house.  Abigail had won a soda at school that day and she was so excited to use it for the party.  Luke asked if he could watch Ike so I could get dinner ready.  I wish every day could be a birthday, the kids were extra amazing.

Abigail made Ben a birthday crown

Luke made Ben a chinese star with all the great things about him

We had apple crisp for dessert... Ben's favorite

sledding January 2016

Our good friends invited us to go sledding during the school break.  The kids had a blast!  It's always way more fun when there are friends around.  Ike was the only one who didn't really enjoy the afternoon, but he put up with it pretty good.

Christmas Day 2015

Christmas with these kids was amazing.  We had a fun morning opening presents... I wish that part could last all day, I love watching the excitement.  Grandma Sharla, Grandpa Larry, Grandma Ruth, and Uncle Eli came over for breakfast and watched the kids with their new things.  After a nap for Isaac, we went to the Dawson's to eat and play with cousins.

Coming down the stairs Christmas morning... Carly's face is hilarious.

As soon as she finished opening her new doll, Hailey wrote in her journal "it was a Christmas miracle" that she got MaryEllen.

When Abigail unwrapped her bow and arrow, she said, "Oh, I bet this was that big package you tried to hide from us."  I am the worst at hiding Christmas presents.

Luke's excited for his new Chargers hat.

Ben picked out a new coat for me.  He had already shown it to me before he wrapped it, but the kids didn't know that, so I put on a really good surprised face :)
Out of the all presents that Ike received, the little plastic horse from Abi was his favorite.

The kids exchanged gifts with their cousins, and Ike received a ball and tee.  He's been so obsessed with it ever since.

Sharla and the girls made donuts for everyone. They were so delicious, and the girls loved helping Grandma.

Best Christmas Ever!

Christmas Eve 2015

We had Christmas Eve dinner at my Parent's house.

Some of the kids played a Christmas song for us.  It's what we used to do as kids, we would all play our instruments and do something special for our Christmas Eve program.

The kids exchanged gifts with each other.  Abigail wanted to do something homemade so bad for her gift.  She had Wally's name, so she made him a pillow.
Wally loved his pillow so much, he kept smiling and laying on it.  It made Abigail so happy!

The kids wanted to sleep together, so we made beds on Abi's floor.  They talked so late into the night.  Ike was not invited to the sleep over:)
